A building in the center of the Mexican capital looks without walls after the earthquake that shook Tuesday the 19th of September in the center of the country. According to the mayor of Mexico City, at least 49 buildings collapsed in areas of the center and south of the capital.

Rescuers and neighbors help one of the affected after a collapse of a structure in the center of Mexico City. The national coordinator of Civil Protection, Luis Felipe Puente, asked the population not to return to their properties until they are reviewed. The Mexico City airport temporarily suspended activities for damages and resumed a few hours later.


A roofcrashed into a parking lot in downtown Mexico City and destroyed the cars that were there, as can be seen in this image. Rescue teams and neighbors removed debris with their own hands, others with shovels, in a desperate search for survivors, Reuters reporters said and showed images in media and social networks.
